Using Dembele to replace Mbappe: Is PSG sober?

PSG is very serious about recruiting Ousmane Dembele and is rushing to complete this deal before July 31. Needless to say, everyone knows this is the solution to the prospect that Kylian Mbappe can leave. But is this alternative worth it?

Dembele is a good player and has long been on PSG’s radar. However, it was only at the end of this July that the two sides were really serious about each other. Negotiations began at the beginning of the month and a five-year contract was agreed. PSG will activate Dembele’s release clause in Barca’s contract worth 50 million euros before July 31, after which that mark will increase to 100 million.

Dembele and his agent will receive half of the amount of 50 million, according to the agreement signed with Barca. The medical examination will be done in Los Angeles. From Dembele’s side, this is a win-win deal. Firstly, he has wanted to leave Barca for a long time but has not found a satisfactory destination. Second, Dembele had just returned to France and received the money. Coach Xavi admires Dembele’s talent and always wants to keep him at Camp Nou for as long as possible. However, this is not possible anymore when there is a break clause in the contract. Barca will suffer a heavy loss when buying Dembele for more than 120 million euros, now only collecting 50% of the amount of 50 million euros.

But not only Barca fans are sad, PSG fans are probably not too happy with this rookie. Bringing Dembele back is clearly a compensation for coach Luis Enrique in the context that it is likely that he cannot use the second best player in the world at the moment – Kylian Mbappe. The French star has angered the PSG leader and was immediately sold on the transfer market, although he was still respected and held on to renew.

But with so many options, choosing Dembele to replace Mbappe is too lame. In fact, at the moment, to find someone to fill 100% of Mbappe’s role is too difficult. But at least, with its financial potential, PSG must find a more stable player, not play a game of chance with Dembele.

Dembele kém xa Mbappe về độ chuyên nghiệp

Dembele is far behind Mbappe in terms of professionalism

“Reputable” is a winger, possessing speed, slick ball walking and two-footed finishes, but during 6 seasons at Camp Nou, Dembele only scored 40 goals, of which the most productive season was also only 14 tables. A light reminder for PSG, in the 2022/23 season alone, Mbappe has scored 41 goals. In the past 6 years, Kiki fired 212 shots in 260 matches.

In addition, if you cannot score regularly, you must at least contribute continuously to the team. But Dembele has too many external problems, from trauma to psychological instability. In the last two seasons, Dembele has never played more than 25 matches/season in La Liga. Such parameters are too trivial for a player brought in to replace Mbappe.

Dùng Dembele thay thế Mbappe: PSG có tỉnh táo không?

Moreover, in terms of attitude, it would be pointless to send this Mbappe away and bring in another “Mbappe”. Talking about personality, Dembele is not “pure” than Mbappe. Even more unprofessional, Dembele is often late to practice and shows a hostile attitude when he meets something unsatisfactory. Would a disciplined coach like Enrique be satisfied working with such a “rainy morning and afternoon” student?

In general, the chances of Dembele succeeding at PSG are there, but the door for him to raise PSG to a new level is not.

Farewell to Mbappe and welcome Dembele, PSG standing still is good enough!
